We were honored to participate in the annual Boca de Oro Arts and Literature Festival in Santa Ana, California.Streets of tThe quaint village of Santa Ana are lined with beautiful homes in the Frank Lloyd Wright manner of Craft Homes. The 25-block downtown area is rife with historical buildings, bakeries, coffee shops, and restaurants. I participated in a panel discussion on migration and used the experiences of my main character in Three Lives of Peter Novak, as well as my own experiences. Fellow panelists Seamus Beirne and Bill Glovinazzo, both authors of historical novels that feature migration, shared their experiences as well as those of the characters in their books. The festival was a huge success and I look forward to participating next year.
One of the perquisites of interacting with fellow authors is getting to know them. Award winning author Seamus Beirne was born and reared in Ireland and migrated to the U.S. at the tender age of 18 to study for the priesthood. After he was ordained he migrated to California to teach Latin and English. He left the priesthood and had a 25-year career as an English teacher, administrator, and union activist. He lives in Irvine with his wife Ann and their dog, Lucy. His novel, Breakout From Sugar Island, was recently published by Fireship Press.
Bill Glovinazzo authored soon to be released “An Italian Love Affair,” and three other books. He is a gifted speaker as well a writer.
I will be at the Paseo Verde Library’s Local Author Showcase in Henderson from 11:30-12:30 on the 18th of this month, as well as the Spring Book Fling at the main Clark County Library on Flamingo Road 11:30-12:30 on the 25th. Hope to see you there.
